From Boss to Coach

Leading Through Change: Turning Managers Into Coaches to Drive Retention and Engagement
Based on Walter’s book From Boss to Coach
Employees don’t want a boss — they want a coach. Drawing on his NBA career, Walter gives leaders a playbook built on the 5 C’s — Clarity, Connection, Communication, Consistency, and Culture — that turns managers into mentors who develop performers instead of just directing them. The result is a connected, committed team and a culture people don’t want to leave.

Your audience will leave able to

Run a coaching conversation instead of a status check
Build consistency into one-on-ones so they actually happen
Give corrective feedback that strengthens the relationship
Reduce regrettable attrition on their own team

The Shark Mindset

Relentless Execution: Building a Sales Team That Refuses to Coast
Based on Walter’s book Swim!
A shark has one rule: keep swimming or die — it can’t coast, it can’t go backwards, and it never waits for permission to hunt. Walter turns that single idea into a mindset your people can actually use, built on his own long-shot story and the relentless personal accountability behind it. It’s high-energy and genuinely funny, but every laugh carries a point the team can put to work Monday morning.

Your audience will leave able to

All Buts Stink

Ending the Excuse Culture: How Teams Take Ownership When Conditions Get Hard
Based on Walter’s book All Buts Stink
Success isn’t determined by your circumstances, your competition, or your challenges — it’s determined by your ability to eliminate excuses, take ownership, and keep moving forward. In this high-energy signature keynote, Walter shares the lessons that took him from Chicago to the NBA, teaching audiences how to build confidence, overcome adversity, and embrace the mindset that drives extraordinary results. Because when excuses end, possibilities begin.

Your audience will leave able to

Recognize the excuse patterns costing their team results
Reset expectations after a setback instead of lowering them

About Walter

He didn’t have the most talent.
He made the most progress.

Walter Bond is an NSA Hall of Fame keynote speaker, bestselling author, and founder of the Make Progress Movement. For more than 25 years he has worked with Fortune 500 companies, franchise organizations, associations, healthcare systems, and high-performing sales teams across North America.
Undrafted out of the University of Minnesota, Walter willed his way into the NBA — the first undrafted rookie free agent to start opening night for the Dallas Mavericks, with stops at the Utah Jazz and Detroit Pistons. That refusal to wait for permission became the through-line of his work on stages around the world.
He is the author of four books — All Buts Stink , Swim! , Cultivate , and Accelerate — the foundation of the Make Progress system. Every keynote is built on that framework and customized to the client’s goals before he steps on stage.
